Okay. So picture this, uh, You walk into a boutique, right, and it’s not just, you know, racks of clothes and accessories, It’s this feeling of warmth and connection, like you’re stepping into a giant closet, its familiar like it’s your closet but it’s not. It feels like you’re stepping into Narnia as you look around in wonder. There is this wonderful aroma and a magical feeling. That’s the vibe Macie Fulmar has created at Grateful Lotus, her women’s clothing boutique in Helena Alabama
She is with me today and we to talk about her entrepreneurial journey of going from her basement to opening her own boutique. And trust me, this is way more than just a business story. She is going to share how she turned a personal struggle into a relatable mission, and why her approach to retail is resonating with so many women.
During Covid a lot of us had time to think about our jobs and our lives and the direction things were going. After experiencing covid And post pardon depression Macie didn’t just think about all that, she did something about it. She really keyed in on a need and what she called that collective sweatpants purgatory era where she sensed that so many women deal with their body image, self doubt and just wanting to feel good again and she was right there in it with them. And instead of letting those feelings hold her back, she turned them into this driving force behind Grateful Lotus.
It’s like she realized that if she was going through this, others probably were too. And she turned that into business strategy. But it’s not just a business strategy, its her business strategy because it fits who she really is. Three minutes into listening to her you will hear exactly that. She shows up for business as exactly who she is in the rest of her life.
What I love is that Macy not only prayed for an answer from God, she literally saw an answer spelled out in tree branches! She knew that was the sign she was asking for and didn’t hesitate. If she hesitated she might not be where she is today. Her faith in God is central to her business operations but much more subtle in her professionalism.
Macie is approachable and genuine and that draws people to her who want to help her succeed. And a valuable lesson in this is that the people in our lives really do want us to succeed. Sure there are those that are jealous and maybe feel threatened but most people want others to do good and flourish.
A clothing boutique is centered around this more tactile approach. People want to see and touch and try on clothing. Macie has a magical formula for social media that allows her clients to experience her inventory that is almost like they are there trying it on themselves! She also offers advice saying things like, Hey, you might want to get this hemmed if you’re petite, you know? It’s like she’s brings a personal stylist experience to her online presence.
Macy’s faith, is a huge part of her story. She’s so open and natural about it, how she prays for guidance, how she trusts things will work out. It’s beautiful. It’s powerful, it makes you wanna just trust the timing of your own life. It’s that faith that everything will be okay in the end. And you can just feel that energy.
So Macie has this unique recipe for business that is 1 part creativity 1 part vulnerability 1 part honesty of all natural ingredients baked in a faith in God and out comes this beautiful experience that you want to savor and go back for seconds.
